The Dishwashing Algorithm

Remote work is more common than ever. Taking care of your personal home tasks while juggling work is inevitable, stretching the limits of multitasking and productivity. After long hours and tonnes of practice, I couldn’t help but wonder, “did I find the best algorithm for dishwashing?”

Step 1: Scrape dishes above the trash can to remove leftovers.

Step 2: Rinse dishes by groups, from light to heavily soiled items- glasses, bowls, plates, pots, and lastly, silverware.

  1. Repeat while no groups are left:
    A) Scrub (and scrub only!) all items in the group. //Pro tip: silverware can be scrubbed in sub-groups.
    B) If an item in the group is sticky or oily, soak it with soap and hot water and continue with the other items.
    C) Otherwise, wash all items with water and set to dry. //Pro tip: finding the right water current prevents overflowing the sink.
    D) If the sponge is non-soapy, apply more soap, the among should be smaller than the size of a bubbling gum.
  2. For each remaining sticky or oily item:
    1) Use hot water and a steel scrubber first, and then use a regular sponge. //Pro tip: a good indication for a clean item is through its sniffing.

Step 3: Use your hand in a circular motion to drain the water left in the sink. //Pro tip: use two fingers only.

Step 4: Wipe leftovers from the countertop into the sink.

Step 5: Remove the sink strainer with all remaining leftovers. Use your other hand to prevent water from dripping from the sink strainer to the floor. //Pro tip: bring the trash can as close as possible at the preparations stage.

Step 6: Open the water tap on the low current to reduce foam. //Pro tip: foam drain can be promoted at step 5.

Step 7: Wipe the sink with a wet towel to clean the battlefield.

Step 8: Wash your hands with nice and soft soap.

Step 9: Apply hand cream or lotion to prevent dry skin.

Step 10: Save money for a dishwasher.

As in similar posts offering an algorithm, I would like to keep this as an open-source. Feel free to DM, comment, or share your own process of dishwashing, because at the end of the day, don’t we all just want to maximize our performance?
